“A diet consisting of 70 percent protein, 20 percent fat and 10 percent carbs is considered high-protein and low-carbohydrate. You might follow such a diet in an attempt to lose weight, but this ratio of macronutrients does not meet the nutritional recommendations made by the Institute of Medicine. Getting an adequate number of calories on such a plan is also challenging. Before following this extreme diet plan, check with your physician. A 70 percent protein, 20 percent fat and 10 percent carb diet plan focuses primarily on lean animal products. Shrimp, lobster, egg whites, chicken and turkey breast, and white fish are lean proteins that provide only trace amounts of carbohydrates and minimal fat. With only 10 percent of your calories coming from carbohydrates, you must stick to small servings of low-carb vegetables such as salad greens, sprouts, peppers, broccoli and asparagus.”
